History & Tradition
Being founded in 1964 as Minsk Radio Engineering Institute, Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics approached to its 50th anniversary in March 2014 with confidence and dignity. The University is following the world trends in engineers training in high-tech fields. That is why the role of BSUIR as the leading educational institution in information technologies, radio electronics, info- and telecommunications, and micro- and nanoelectronics will increase in future. Today, the University has become a large national research and educational centre possessing great workforce, scientific and training capacities, up-to-date laboratory equipment and extensive infrastructure.

Historical timeline
Minsk Radio Engineering Institute (MREI) opened its doors under the decree of the BSSR Council of Ministers No. 78 dated 27 February 1964
MREI is acknowledged as the best HEI at the All-Union Review of the Implementation of Science and Technology in the National Economy
The Institute won in the All-Union Review of the Innovations Penetration and was awarded a Diploma of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions
MREI took the leading position among the USSR HEIs and research organisations and was granted the Red Challenge Banner of the USSR Ministry of Higher and Vocational Education
MREI is specifically recognised for the progress in scientific research and specialist training, being included into the list of top USSR universities
MREI is transformed into BSUIR under the decree of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus No. 786 dated 16 November 1993
BSUIR is acknowledged as the basic HEI of Belarus in informatics, radio engineering and electronics by the order of the Belarusian Ministry of Education No. 365 dated 16 August 1998.
BSUIR is certified as a higher educational institution of a University type by the State Inspectorate for Educational Institutions and the Ministry of Education
BSUIR acknowledged the status of the industry-leading University
The Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) specified BSUIR as the basic CIS organisation for higher education in computer science and radio electronics
BSUIR gained the status of a Scientific Organisation by the decision of the Belarusian State Committee for Science and Technologies and the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences
BSUIR won in the nomination ‘Higher education’ in the republican contest. The University’s name is put on the Republican Board of Honour by the Presidential Decree No. 281 dated 27 June 2013
The Honour State Flag of the Republic of Belarus was awarded to BSUIR by the Presidential Decree No. 104 dated 28 February 2014. The University was honoured for outstanding achievements in training, social and cultural development.
Having won in the contest among research organisations, its name is put on the Republican Board of Honour under the Presidential Decree No. 299 dated 27 June 2014
Minsk Radioengineering College joined BSUIR as a branch college
BSUIR wins in the nomination ‘Research’ at the annual republican contest and its name is put on the Republican Board of Honour for the second time
BSUIR Rector, Professor Mikhail Batura is awarded a Presidential Certificate of Merit acknowledging his long-lasting fruitful research and teaching activity and considerable personal contribution to the training of highly qualified professionals
For the second time BSUIR won the Prize of the Government of the Republic of Belarus for achievements in quality in 2016.
